Proctor - Gamble CIO will be Commencement Speaker at NPower Virtual Graduation Ceremony Honoring Fall 2021 Graduates

New York City, New York Mar 8, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - The tech training nonprofit NPower has announced Vittorio Cretella, Chief Information Officer for Proctor & Gamble and NPower board member, will be the commencement speaker at this year's virtual graduation ceremony honoring young adults and veterans trainees who completed the program.

The virtual graduation ceremony for the Fall 2021 cohort will take place on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 7 pm ET. More than 350 young adults and military trainees from Brooklyn, Harlem, Jersey City, Newark, Baltimore, Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and San Jose will be honored.

Cretella said his commencement speech will include personal stories from his rise at Proctor & Gamble (P&G) that he believes will inspire the next generation of tech leaders.

"This semester's graduating class has overcome many obstacles to secure their spot with NPower," said Cretella. "And it's just the beginning. I plan to share stories from many obstacles I faced in my rise through the corporate ranks, and I know it won't be unique for them. We are all here together to inspire change and bring more diversity to tech."

Cretella has spent more than 29 years working in the technology industry. He joined Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 2020 as CIO where he led a global team of thousands of IT professionals, who accelerated product innovation alongside retail partners. 

Prior to P&G, Cretella worked in various global roles at Mars for 26 years, including Global Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). As CIO, Cretella was responsible for IT services to more than 80,000 employees across 100+ countries. As CTO, he led 600 associates through implementing and monitoring IT infrastructure. 

Cretella also has served as a Principal for VCAdvisory, where he worked as an independent advisor to global CPG and logistics companies. He has been on the NPower Board of Directors since 2016. 

This is the fourth NPower class to transition from an in-person to a virtual learning environment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first virtual graduation was in August 2020. 

Alexandria Jones of Michigan was a young mother who dropped out of college. After losing her job at a call center during the pandemic, she looked for opportunities to create a better life for herself and child. She completed the NPower program and now works as an IT Programmer Analyst for the State of Michigan.

"NPower literally met the needs of everything I was looking to do," said Jones. "My time at NPower opened my eyes to opportunities and possibilities in the IT field, and life, that I honestly never saw myself capable of since I didn't have a formal education in technology. Now I do."

Students who enter the free, six-month training program, earn industry-recognized certifications and graduate with the competencies of an IT professional with one to two years of experience.
