Namida Lab Partners with Arkansas Urology in Prostate Cancer Screening Study
Namida Lab®, Inc., a biotech company in Fayetteville, Arkansas has partnered with Arkansas Urology, headquartered in Little Rock, to offer their patients the opportunity to participate in a study to identify proteins in tears that could lead to the development of an early cancer detection test for prostate cancer. The study, which is fully funded by Namida Lab, will begin in December 2021. Namida Lab has a mission of developing novel cancer diagnostics based on biomarkers from tears.
"We are proud to partner with an Arkansas-based lab developing innovative and exciting ways to screen for cancers through tear proteins. We are excited to provide our patients the opportunity to participate in this important research," says Dr. Taylor Moore with Arkansas Urology.
As of 2020, 43% of all cancers diagnosed in men accounted for prostate, lung, and colorectal cancer. Katie O'Brien of Arkansas Urology says, "Our patients' tears will provide valuable data to help identify cancer biomarkers."
Tear samples collected from Arkansas Urology patients will also help Namida Lab with further research and development on tear testing. "There are so many things scientists can study from tears, but unlike blood samples, tear samples cannot simply be purchased. We have to collect them as we need them," says Namida Lab R&D scientist Dr. Prashanth Ravishankar.
Namida Lab has established local and national collaborations to conduct a series of studies around breast cancer and self-collection of tear samples. To learn more about our studies, find a site near you, or enroll directly please visit namidalab.com/clinical-trails.
