With Orange County’s free hazardous waste drop-off centers closed on major holidays, the Anaheim junk hauler recommends setting aside paint, fuel and chemicals before booking a garage cleanout or junk pickup.

Anaheim, United States, October 23, 2026 /NewsNetwork/ -- Junk King Anaheim is advising Orange County renters and homeowners to separate paint, fuel, pesticides and other household hazardous materials from furniture, appliances and bulky items before they schedule garage cleanouts ahead of Thanksgiving on November 26. Junk removal crews do not haul hazardous materials, notes the team. Those items go to the County of Orange’s free household hazardous waste collection centers, one of which is in Anaheim. Sorting them out in advance lets renters and homeowners plan both disposal trips before the holiday week, when the county centers close.
Garages often take on years of overflow from the rest of the house. The Storable and SpareFoot “Real Cost of Clutter” report, released in April 2025, found that 31% of the 1,000 Storable customers surveyed said their garages were at least half-filled with clutter, and 9% said they could not park in their garages at all. Holiday gatherings give many households a reason to reclaim that space for parking or visiting guests.
Garage junk piles rarely sort themselves into tidy categories - half-used paint cans, motor oil, pool chemicals, weed killer and propane cylinders often sit beside broken shelving, old mattresses and unused exercise equipment. Junk King Anaheim removes junk, electronic waste, and unwanted items, except hazardous waste, while the county centers accept hazardous waste like automotive products, batteries, light bulbs, cleaning products, flammable products, lawn and garden chemicals, and wet paint.
The county’s Anaheim collection center is at 1071 N. Blue Gum Street. County centers are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and close on major holidays and rainy days. Residents may carry no more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per vehicle per trip. Containers larger than 5 gallons are not accepted, and most materials must stay in their original, labeled containers.
“Many people contact us when they have a situation they are not sure how to handle, and a garage that has filled up over several years is one of the most common,” said Lee Turrini, owner of Junk King Anaheim. “Paint cans, old fuel and garden chemicals usually end up mixed in with everything else. When homeowners set those aside before we arrive, our crew can focus on the furniture, appliances and other items we’re able to take, and the hazardous waste can go to the county center that is set up to handle them.”
For the non-hazardous portion of a cleanout, Junk King Anaheim prices jobs by the amount of truck space used. The company reports that each of its trucks holds 18 cubic yards, equivalent to 12 standard-size refrigerators. Crews remove furniture, appliances, mattresses, hot tubs, electronics and yard waste, and larger garage cleanout projects may need more than one load. Free estimates are available, and same-day appointments may be possible, depending on scheduling.
The company reports that up to 60% of the material it collects is recycled, donated or repurposed through local warehouses, with the remainder sent for disposal. Homeowners who are unsure whether an item counts as hazardous waste can check the county’s accepted-items list or describe the item when requesting an estimate.
