Introducing Symmetrista: Company Changing the Narrative of Breast Asymmetry by Making Bras for Women With Uneven Boobs

Symmetrista, a bra company for asymmetric breasts, has a mission to change the lives of women faced with the challenge of uneven boobs, unveils the brand with the aim to establish a product-market fit in the UK and EU markets. Founded by Merlin Seeman, a managing partner and attorney-at-law at an international law firm and is one of the co-founders of kood/Johvi, a programming school backed by Taavet Hinrikus and Martin Villing (Wise, Bolt), Symmetrista’s product stands as a bra designed specifically for asymmetric breasts, ensuring optimal support by integrating all the essential features found in a traditional bra.

The survey conducted by Symmetrista in the EU and the UK among 11,000 women with a 10% response rate revealed that 38% of the respondents identify as having asymmetrical breasts and consequently, not finding suitable chest support from conventional bras. Furthermore, various reports indicate that approximately 14% of women overall experience breast asymmetry which is typically caused by genetic factors, hormonal imbalance, breastfeeding or cancer.

Symmetrista’s bras are crafted through proprietary technology, enabling the production of bras with a remarkable capacity to currently accommodate differences for up to 5 cups in breast sizes. Merlin says the bra was born out of her own need for it and has played in the back of her mind for over 10 years. “We’ve quite literally prototyped one bra at a time, but have now standardised the sizes we can offer – women with uneven breasts need a bra with one cup a certain size and the other one in a different size. With the technology behind the production, we’re able to create bras in a way that one cup is unpadded and the other cup, regardless if it’s left or right, is up to 2, 3, 4 or 5 sizes bigger,” says Merlin. In order to achieve that goal, Symmetrista’s team has developed specific moulds that help with this in the production process. “For the moulds’ development, we used one of our first models who’s asymmetry is around 3 - 3,5 cups and have created the prototype of our Signature Bra based on her measurements.” From the outside, the product looks like any regular bra and currently stands as the first-ever bra designed specifically for asymmetric breasts that comes in one piece and can be hooked from the back.

“Unlike other bras designed for women with uneven breasts which - for example – often have small pockets inside the bra’s cups to accommodate pad adjustments, from the outside, our Signature Bra looks like a lingerie staple, created with minimalism, comfort and a classic design in mind. All the modifications made in the bra to accommodate breasts in different sizes are concealed on the inside,” adds Merlin. “Women are often stuck with being unable to find a suitable bra – often opting for bras with removable pads which never turn into a long-term solution, as they’re uncomfortable and require readjusting throughout the day,“ Merlin said.

So far, Symmetrista has raised £100,000. Their aim is to eventually enter the market globally, starting from the UK and the rest of Europe. The goal of the funds raised is to establish the product-market fit and bring the bras closer to the women who need it by raising awareness of the topic of breast asymmetry.
