The respected and renowned law firm is changing gears from criminal defense cases to marijuana licensing ahead of proposed changes to Michigan state laws this November.

Michigan, United States - August 14, 2018 / / —
Michigan, United States. Monday 13th August: With just weeks to go until Michigan is expected to vote Yes on the MMLI (Michigan Marijuana Legalization Initiative) ballot for the legalization of recreational cannabis, marijuana licensing is set to become more significant than ever as businesses look to capitalize on the inevitable rise in demand. Fowler & Williams is now focusing on this area of legal expertise to help companies throughout the state embark on their journeys and support the growth of the industry for the benefit of consumers throughout the industry.
A New Chapter For Michigan’s State Laws
A decade ago, the 2008 Prop 1 legislation saw Michigan become the 13th state to legalize cannabis for medical reasons as 63% of the population voted in favor of the move. Fast-forward ten years and the ballot on recreational cannabis use is expected to occur on November 6 with a similar outcome expected from the vote itself.
This comes following last year’s petition, which acquired over 365,000 signatures from supporters of legalization. Assuming it happens, Michigan will join the likes of California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington in extending the legalization to recreational usage. Should MMLI pass, people aged at least 21 will be able to carry up to 2.5 ounces and keep up to 10 ounces at home. They will also be able to grow up to 12 marijuana plants at home.
For businesses, however, there will be a host of issues to consider. Fowler & Williams are the experts to make it happen.
A New Chapter For Michigan’s Premier Law Firm
With 24 years of combined experience, Fowler & Williams has helped hundreds of clients with a plethora of different cases. Their knowledge and dedication have established the firm’s name as one of the state’s most trusted experts in criminal law, family law, and licensing defense. This is something that the attorneys endeavor to bring into the world of marijuana legalisation.
Should MMLI pass, municipalities would be able to limit or ban marijuana businesses while the 10% excise tax will be added to the 6% standard sales tax paid by the consumer. From direct licensing laws to taxations, Fowler & Williams is there to help businesses prepare for the changes that will come following the November 6 decision to start their commercial activities in the best fashion.
Experienced attorney Daniel Williams confirmed: “The pending changes over statewide marijuana laws present an exciting new chapter for cannabis distributors throughout Michigan. Fowler & Williams are fully committed to helping them remain legally complicit throughout the transition.”
At an exciting yet confusing time for existing and new cannabis sellers alike, Fowler & Williams is the only marijuana licensing law firm that any distributor needs.
